Indianapolis, Indiana’s PILLARS deftly encapsulate the essence of contemporary post-rock music. Whatever you choose to call it – third-wave, fourth-wave – PILLARS’ sound is at its core the driving force of what the genre has become over the past ten years. Not necessarily as beholden to art-rock experimentation as their forebearers, they nonetheless paint beautiful pictures with their music; driven more by straightforward, heavier influences, they excel at wrapping their thoughtful compositions in an accessible and riff-forward exterior. Their newest release Of Salt and Sea is a record defined by its ability to succeed as conceptually epic while functioning within more compact and streamlined structures than post-rock fans may be accustomed to.
